About The Authors

Marcia Herrin and Nancy Matsumoto are the co-authors of The Parent's Guide to Eating Disorders: Supporting Self-Esteem, Healthy Eating & Positive Body Image at Home (Gurze Books, 2007)," a revised and expanded edition of our first book, The Parent's Guide to Childhood Eating Disorders, from Henry Holt and Company (2002).

Dr. Herrin is founder of the Dartmouth College Eating Disorders Prevention, Education and Treatment Program, one of the most respected programs of its kind in the nation. Currently, she runs a busy private practice specializing in children and adults with weight issues and eating disorders. Dr. Herrin received her master's of public health from the University of California at Berkeley, and her doctorate in nutrition education from Columbia University.

A sought-after expert on children with eating problems, Dr. Herrin was featured in a People magazine cover story on eating disorders on college campuses (which was reported by Nancy Matsumoto), has appeared on The Today Show and 48 Hours, and has been quoted in The New York Times, Shape Magazine, and other print media. She has also served as a consultant to a wide variety of public and private universities and school systems, as well as to the school of the American Ballet Theatre and Outside Magazine. Dr. Herrin lives in a small New Hampshire village.

Nancy Matsumoto is a freelance journalist who has written human interest, news, entertainment and medical articles, including numerous stories on health, eating disorders and body image. She has been a contributor to Time, Newsweek, Health, People, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, among other publications. As the mother of a teenage son, Nancy has seen the kind of impact she has on her child's approach to food and body image. She uses her recognized ability to draw out and sensitively interview subjects from all walks of life to craft analytical, clear and compelling stories in the areas of health, food and culture.
